To avoid being delayed for practice in the field and to avoid being late for field-hockey, her drama instructor advised her to take a break from her routine in favour being part of the cast in Richard III. Sarah decided to marry her love of acting with her education by double-majoring in English at Hamilton College and pursuing a study abroad program at London, Oxford and London in her junior year. Following her graduation with a Hamilton College magnacumlaude, she continued until Yale Drama School. Sarah's parents urged her to pursue a career with the art.
